Carrie Custer - Director, Lillie Russell Memorial Library
Library Director Carrie Custer started working at Lindale Library as a volunteer in 2003. She jumped right into the work and it wasn’t long before the Library Board asked her to be the Director. Carrie loves books and has a passion for literacy, both are a big reason she took the position and considers it a chance of a lifetime to help develop literacy and add to a unique library.
Experience – Mrs. Custer comes to Lindale with years of customer service and business management experience. She began her career as an hourly retail sales employee working in Oklahoma and California. As her career advanced, she learned more business operations and human resources skills. Soon, she found herself in control of a large retail chain store with millions in business and dozens of employees. These experiences in customer service and business management prepared her for the unique challenges of Lindale Library. Since becoming Director at Lindale Library and now Lillie Russell Memorial Library, the library has seen an almost 900% increase in usage. Patron usage, circulation transactions, incoming revenue, and community programs have all increased under her leadership.

Chris works in technology in the East Texas area and volunteers at the library along with their daughter. Carrie’s love of books is shared by her family and can often be seen by the unique mix of children’s books in the collection at Lillie Russell Memorial.
Favorite Reads – Carrie has a large collection of favorites. However, she loves to share her love of “The Strawberry Girl”, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”, and “Who Will Run The Frog Hospital”. But don’t be afraid to ask her about books and series that might fit your young reader or your particular interests. Carrie calls herself an accidental librarian, but her passion for books and collecting editions and signed copies has given her unique knowledge of popular literature.
Carrie strives to make Lillie Russell Memorial a dynamic and indispensable aspect of community life in Lindale.
